What is the Senior Citizen Tuition Free Policy for Continuing Education Courses?

Per General Statute:  G.S. 115D-5(b)(11)

A legal resident of North Carolina age 65 or older shall be eligible for the waiver of one occupational extension course (one course of noncredit instruction per academic semester) that begins in each of the following time periods:

*     January 1 - May 15

*     May 16 - August 14

*     August 15 - December 31

If a senior citizen receives a waiver for a class and then subequently drops the course after the first day of class, the waiver is considered used and cannot be applied to another course.

***This waiver cannot be used for self-supporting courses***
